Swimwear & Bikini Trends For Summer

We are excited about this summer's swimwear and bikini trends and wanted to discuss a recent article that was published by Abigail Southan for Elle Magazine, "All The Biggest Swimwear Trends Of Summer."  The review was very much in line with what we are currently seeing and designing in swimwear and bikini trends this summer.

Elle Magazine rounded up all the key trends to look out for this season (with some help from style bible Lyst, which has just shared the results from its latest survey). From buzzy neon and animal print pieces to timeless polka dot and sustainable swimsuits, here’s what everyone is obsessing over this summer:

  • Neon Swimwear

Neon hues have been championed by the likes of House of Holland, Prada, Wendolin Designs, and Off-White for the last few seasons. And they're more flattering than you might first think: super bright shades create the illusion of a deeper tan. The reigning queen of this look is without a doubt Kylie Jenner. Remember that moment when she twinned with baby Stormi and best friend Jordyn Woods (before the whole Tristan Thompson scandal ensued) in matching highlighter yellow swimsuits? Well, searches for neon swimwear surged by 29% a month later. You do the maths.

  • Knotted Swimwear

The newest trend to emerge for the summer swimwear season is anything and everything knotted. Pretty and practical, knotted bikinis and swimsuits allow for customization (a bit of hoisting, tightening and perhaps loosening, towards the end of your holiday). Editor-turned-designer Lisa Marie Fernandez kicked things off a few years back with her cult ‘Poppy’ style – Rihanna and Giovanna Battaglia Engelbert are fans – and now other brands have put their own twist on tie details.

  • Animal Print Swimwear

No surprises here. Animal print returned with a vengeance last year. The AW18 shows saw designers foraying further than classic leopard print, exploring tiger stripes, zebra and cow spots, too. And according to Lyst, the trend is going nowhere anytime soon. Searches for ‘leopard print’ are up from last year and cow spots are also proving popular. The demand for this unusual print rose by 39% just one month after Kylie Jenner posted that Instagram picture of her on a yacht, wearing a belted swimsuit and a straw cowboy hat. Coincidence? We think not.

  • Polka-dot Swimwear

The ever-popular polka-dot is having yet another moment. Searches spiked in January after Nicole Kidman was spotted wearing a monochrome bikini on the beach in Sydney.

  • Sustainable Swimwear

At last, sustainable swimwear is no longer a token part of collections – and that's down to customer demand. More and more shoppers are now actively seeking out eco-friendly brands and designs. It’s not just luxury labels stepping up though, the high street has come through this year with a range of swimwear made from recycled bottles, fishing nets, and plastic.
